Have Canadian researchers found a cure for cancer?

It sounds too good to be true and maybe this is just another one of “those” reports that we hear about from time to time that never seem to go anywhere. Nonetheless the internet is beginning to buzz with the news that researchers at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada have discovered a cure for cancer. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this were really true this time?

This isn’t the first time that a so called cure for cancer has been discovered over the years. In the past there have been many reports of a miraculous cure to the greatest enemy that mankind has ever faced. Sometimes they were nothing more than a money making scam, other times further research disproved the claim. There were also times that we simply never heard anything after the initial report. This gave rise to many conspiracy theories stating that the true cure to cancer was being suppressed by the “powers that be” in some type of elaborate money scheme. Some believe that this disease is too big of a money maker for the big pharmaceutical companies and medical industry as a whole to simply disappear.

Regardless of what your personal beliefs might be, there have been few reports on television, radio or traditional news sources about this most recent breakthrough. According to this latest study, a drug known as DCA (dichloroacetate - currently used to treat metabolic disorders) has been used to kill lung, breast and brain cancer cells without damaging the surrounding healthy cells. Even more amazing is the fact that there are virtually no side effects or long term concerns about this drug. I truly wonder if this is just another false claim or if this time a working cure has actually been discovered.

One thing is for certain; we have all lost loved ones to this hideous and unforgiving disease and I pray that this is not yet another hoax or rumor that will soon disappear as has happened so many times in the past. Cancer is too serious a topic for such games. As always time will tell all. You can access the original research here.
