Even the Jetsons didn’t have a car that could drive itself!

I wonder if you’ve heard of a company called Tesla Motors? Tesla is a car manufacturer that makes some of the coolest cars on the road today. The best part is that they are electric and require no fuel of any kind. But don’t confuse these cars with the battery operated vehicles you’ve seen in the past. The new Model S can go from 0 – 60 in only 2.8 seconds and depending upon the model you choose can travel as far as 270 miles before recharging.

The cars also have a lot of available features including all-wheel drive, AM/FM/HD radio, online radio, Bluetooth, a high definition backup camera, a voice controlled hands free voice system for use with your phone and a built in 17” touch screen to bring it all together.

As impressive as this vehicle is you haven’t heard the best part yet: The Tesla Model S can drive itself! Yes, you heard right, the autopilot feature actually works and allows you to do other things while being driven to your destination! The system combines a forward looking camera, radar and an array of 360 degree sonar sensors along with real time traffic updates allowing the car to operate completely on its own.  Want to change lanes? Simply tap the turn signal and the car will do the rest! When you finally arrive at your destination this impressive vehicle will locate a parking space and park itself for you.

This all sounds too good to be true and one of the questions that people often ask is “Is it safe to allow the car to drive?” The answer to that is simple and you can read about it for yourself at Tesla Model S Achieves Best Safety Rating of Any Car Ever Tested . The vehicle also received 5 stars (the highest possible rating) in every category from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration so it would seem that safety is not an issue.

Finally, the future has arrived! And the price tag? Not as bad as you might expect I think. The cash price is $75,000 but there is a current $7,500 tax credit and remember, you’ll never need to buy gas again!
